Back in the fold with no. 4!
Hey guys, after a lengthy hiatus and much regret about selling my first three 1M's, I am pleased to be back, joining the Forum again with my #4.
Alpine White stripper, 3,911 mile car in excellent shape. For some reason, I kept some information which I gathered when I picked up my first car at the BMW Performance Center in Greenville, to include the dealer promotion brochure, dealer technical manual and a rather thick historical document(s) detailing in the lead engineer's own words how this car came about and how it went from concept to the best M car ever made by BMW. I find the technical manual really cool as it lists all components side by side with the 135I and M3 from the same year. Quite interesting. It'll be a few weeks until I can get the car transported to my home, but I just wanted to say hi to everyone. Scott in Atlanta GA! |

So, I have one set of the front fender vent tape (pre-cut) that i bought from a German company years ago, they seem to be out of business. Anyone know of a US source or any source?

Regarding vent overlay, I wonder if this guy is still doing it:
https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1714667 I'm very curious about this dealer technical manual that you describe. I'm assuming this is not something that would have been routinely included with a new car? Congrats on getting back into a 1M! Where else has your car journey taken you other than full circle? |

Anyway, my 1M story is that somehow I got an initial allocation back in 2010 and ordered a VO stripper (except heated seats) and picked it up at the Greenville facility. As with many others, it sat in my garage, with only occasional driving etc. and so i sold it. Then turned around and bought another VO, then sold it and bought another VO. The last one I owned is now for sale at EAG (5,100 miles) and is a super sharp car. That was a few years ago now and in my old age I started to regret my actions.... so after a bit of sleuthing I found what I hope is my final car. Long story I know. My kids wanted me to get a Vette. I'm too old to get in those things. |

The technical manual also details the exact nomenclature of the motor, transmission, gear box, differential and more. I also like that it explains clearly how the boost mode works vs. the M button and such. Great reference as there was tons of confusion way back when on how all these things coordinated.

I am very, very curious about this manual especially after your description of it.
Any chance you could post a screenshot of the cover? I'm going to try and hunt for one because it sounds really interesting. How long on average have you gone in between 1Ms before the itch started to come back? I've had mine since new and occasionally think about selling it to simplify life but everyone tells me "you will regret it". |

That reference manual is available as a PDF. I don't think I can post it here because BMW doesn't appreciate people sharing the content they charge money for. They would like you to pay $32 for 24hr access to BMWTIS where it can be found.
However, it has found its way to archive.org. You are looking for a document numbered ST1104. Just search for "ST1104 BMW" and you should find your way there. |

you can actually download the softcopy of that document here. It's free
https://www.1addicts.com/forums/atta...2&d=1396203865 btw, welcome back Rekraps !! - how are you able to acquire such low mileage 1Ms ? Do you hunt them down or do you have like a bat phone that sellers can just reach out and say .. hey Scott, i got something. You want it ? ![]()

I get very lucky. Somehow when I decide to search, a great car pops right up. That being said, I look for the car, not the deal. I have no problem paying good money for a good car.
In this case, I perused everywhere and quite frankly almost pulled the ticket on a 1M with moderate mileage (30K - 50K) but I’m so anal about nicks and road rash and worn leather that I quickly moved toward lower mileage cars. The EAG car (my former car) was a bit too high IMO so I just kept going until I found the AW car. |

Well the car arrived yesterday and I was most pleasantly surprised! The dealer (Ryan Friedman) completely understated the condition of the car. Not a single scratch or ding nor any road rash at all, anywhere. The car is concourse.
And, I was also delighted to find that the car had a full body film wrap. Very pleased, Odometer: 3919 miles. AW, VT47605, No options at all. |

Something else to print out is the .xls spreadsheet (I forgot who compiled it) that lists every North American 1M produced with details on each car and the options and price. Nice to have. I printed on 11x17 paper and it took front and back seven pages!

Welcome back. Glad to hear a VO veteran recognize that Alpine is the best. I have the stripper with heated seats. MANY more miles than yours lol. But still looks brand new.
I'm glad you posted about Dinan Stage 2. I was planning on Stage 3 but you changed my mind.

Also contributing to me stopping at a stage II is I want to keep the car as stock as possible. The AW is really growing on me. |
