Alarm System Install quotes
I was wondering what you guys paid to get an alarm system installed in your 1er in California, specifically the Bay Area. I was quoted at $849 (system + installation) at Stevens Creek where I purchased the vehicle. This sounded like a complete rip-off so I called Fremont and Mountain View. The latter gave me a quote of $500, what a difference!
What were you guys paying/quoted at??

Part and labor cost on options are negotiable!
The service departments have to make their monthly numbers just like sales. I always find my best deals from dealers during the last 2 weeks on the month. $500 sounds high which alarm system ?

Please, please consider installing the BMW allarm yourself. Apparently that advice is worth about $400, I will take a check. It takes about an hour to do if you are taking your time, and the longest part will be jacking up the left rear and removing the liner.
Once it is installed it should cost you a shade over $100 to have the car programmed. I bought my alarm at a good price from a vendor off of this sight and the install was easy and can be found in the DIY forum. Good luck, you won't need it.

I've heard of some earlier problems with the standard alarm BMW dealers offer. not sure what the problem was or if they got around to fixing it?
I am in Canada and my dealer mention that they do not have a proper alarm for a 1 series, but they relie heavily on advertising an alarm purchase and install base on the 3 series as a ball park figure (around 1150 for convertible) I enter BMWusa and they have the alarm purchase for 250 U$ plus the labor. i may consider crossing the border for shopping and dropping the car at the dealer for a while. Guess by this post, I might as well end up at the dealer as a schedule work near the last week of the month so that they can make their sales number and I get a better deal. Win, win for everyone.

Shelly BMW in Socal quoted $320 including installation. I think that is more of the going range.
