The sound, the immediacy, the view, it's all just wow. Always loved that car, but honestly, if I had that kind of coin I'd fit a suitable set of wheels/tires and a decent rear spoiler.

completely agree with chris. If you got the coin, nothing else can really compare to this thing. NA v12, 6 spd, and 2600 pounds. maybe a carrera gt or f50 would come close.

Love Chris Harris and his videos. Great to see someone that has driven some of the greatest cars ever created to be so impacted by a car that was designed and developed 30+ years ago. No doubt McLaren F1 is a GOAT.

The new Gordon Murray T50 comes close
![]() But that also costs 3 million+ ![]() The F1 looks better though. Why can't they make cars like this but then around the 100k mark ![]()

yup. 2579 according to car and driver's test from 1994 ( https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...d-test-review/ )
its crazy that it has a v12 yet weighs less than a toyota 86. and was pulling faster trap speeds than an aventador svj on 30 year old tire tech. correction: Kerb Weight (Dry): 1,140 kg (2,513 lbs) Kerb Weight (with fluids): 1,260 kg (2,778 lbs)

I had the fortune to see one in person many years ago in PA. I stared at it for an hour straight because I knew I'd likely never see one in person again. GOAT for sure.

Saw one today. Exact same spec as the one in the video. It's always a bit jarring when you notice how small they really are.

Simply the greatest car there ever will be. Back in the late 90s I got to sit in a silver one while we were vacationing in London. I don't remember the exact specifics, I just remember it was all alone in a McLaren showroom, wasn't roped off or anything. I'll see if I can find some pictures as I know I have at least one lying around somewhere. I knew it was a great car back then but did not appreciate at the time just how legendary it would become (I remember being way more interested in the F50). No way I'll ever have an opportunity to sit in one again.

Great video. You know you’re in the presence of automotive perfection when Chris is at a loss for words. Truly special once in a lifetime opportunity for all to enjoy.

Honestly not one of my favorite videos of Chris'. He seemed to be at a loss of what to say. Honestly prefer one of Henry Catchpole's videos, either his original one of "F1 JOY" back in the day comparing it to the P1 done for EVO magazine, or his more recent one comparing the same "F1 JOY" (complete with still squealing brakes) compared to the Gordon Murray T50.
Especially the latter. REALLY enlightening how two cars that are remarkably similar by the same man are still remarkably different. Despite similar size, NA V12's, manual boxes, and central seating position, the T50 is an altogether different beast. Regardless, good to see Chris have a go. He certainly deserves it. But the above videos give a much better sense of what the F1 is really about, IMO. |
