BMW to add ''performance 1series..."

Says our trustworthy Scott27 on GCZ.

"BMW understands the potential of such cars with young enthusiasts that share the passion of the BMW brand and the first step taken in this criteria was the marketing dept working with the creators on introducing two as yet unseen models as shown in the BMW 135i Coupe and the BMW Concept 1er Tii. This will now include the upcoming BMW Z4 as this has equally huge potential for BMW especially in brand recognition and creativity. Whereas the new Z4 will not be available as such just now , the new E89 hopes to follow the Spring 09 release of the car. "

footnote: the cars will be downloads for the wildly popular game Gran Turismo 5

Hmm...what can they be? My guess would be the new 120CSi Scott27 was talking about back in Feb. Its destined for Europe.

"The BMW 120CSi - Four Cylinder Turbo - 240 PS. with Efficient Dynamics , Lightweight body enhancement. The first compact performance coupe with low emissions."

What about that second car??

How old is that? I read it as being old, and the two models are the Tii concept and 135i, which are both available on GT5.

It was posted yesterday.

Perhaps he was speaking in the past tense? Scott can be a bit hard to decipher at times.

Thanks!! Nice to see some familiar faces there too!

Btw, off topic, but are you replacing the S2K soon? I see the moniker change and just wonder.

Yeah, GCZ is nice but 1addicts is home!

I'm actually waiting to see how this performance orientated 1 series pans out. I had cash specifically earmarked for the 135i but invested into a small business instead. I'm 70% sure my next premium car will be a 1. 30% sure it will be the new Z4. 100% sure a Bimmer. I'm going to sell the s2k by December. I'm looking for a fun FWD/economical ride in the meantime as a ''buffer'' car.

You can doubt all you want. Those in the know has already hinted at it a half a dozen time over the past year. Things can change ofcourse, but as of right now its still on. Many doubted the N54 in a 1 would cannibalize the 3. It didnt even make a sizable dent. The E92 M3 will be side by side with an M5/6 despite the 30-40k premium.

The fact remains that there is a $20,000 gap between a base 135i and base M3.

Take a look at Scott27's post.

EDIT:

A performance version dosent have to outgun an M3. The fastest times a stock M3 ran was 4.1 to 60mph and 12.6 in the quarter. Nothing wrong with a 1 doing 4.4 seconds and 12.8. A 135i is a smoking hot car. It does not have a proper LSD, and its not really track ready out the box. It can hold its own there though. All that with a rock solid factory warranty.
