Hey - so does mine! That's a serious stuff up IMHO. Might be worth following up. You know what these insurance companies are like - any excuse will do.

That's very odd. It's almost like BMW Australia has put the wrong model code on their central data table which all the insurance companies access.
My insurance doesn't actually state the model code. It just says Serie-1 coupe.

One of the insurance companies I was quoting with (I think it was Suncorp?) didn't have their DB updated to reflect some of the newer models.
They were quoting me on a 130i until I corrected them. |

It may well be that BMW is not treating the Coupes and Verts are new models, but rather as variants to save on compliance. Hence sticking with E87.

I just checked the wiki on the 1 and the E87 is def. the model code of the 5-door 1'ers. E82 is for the coupe.
As I mentioned earlier the chance is quite high that your insurance company doesn't have their books updated with the newer model and you're being misquoted as a result. |

mattyv, check your compliance plate under the bonnet. As I said above, mine says E87. I know it is E82 on BMW's books, but possibly BMW is calling it E87 on official rego systems here in Aust.

I insured my car with Suncorp in May and they got it right. I states in writing the details as - 2 door sports coupe with 6 cylinder twin turbocharged engine.

Didn't know this thread from 2008 existed, I asked a similar question the other day, seems like all Aus delivered coupe's have incorrect compliance plate codings.

I wouldn't worry about it.
For whatever reason, I'm guessing cost, BMW Australia have decided to have all 1 series ADR complianced as an E87. |
