I bought the carbon kevlar version to finish my work now that the factory panels are 8k a pop. We'll see how they do.

I don't have any experience with the Ionic flares but there seems to be a new option for metal flares/quarters if you want to go that route. I dont have much info about these but they're metal flares for about the same price as the fiberglass ones and ThicWhip on IG is going to be using them to replace the fiberglass on his 1M clone.

Those could be great or really terrible.

Guess I'll wait with everyone else and find out.

They caught my eye in a search to see if any other options had come to market.

I wrote them and got a quote for shipping to Canada. The submission for quote didn’t let me add a second panel, but one panel plus shipping to Canada was 327 GPB or approx $600 CAD.

I googled their reputation and it seems very positive in the British sports car community, where they seem well established. They must have seen an opportunity with the 1M flares.

Not bad at all in light of the OEM panels skyrocketing, coupled with fibreglass flare users reporting cracks forming and recurring bodywork required.

This is my leading candidate for the rear quarters when the time comes.

I talked with them as well. They haven't fit them on any cars yet, zero feedback but did say they were modeled from an actual 1M. So...

Ive asked the local Euro customs body shop whether they'd rather use the carbon fiber flares I have, the above mentioned steel panels, or do a hand widened flare.

I'll update here after the holidays once I hear back from them.

I recieved my revised quote, $914 CAD for both LH and RH flares shipped to Ontario, Canada.

Also noted online discussion that ThicWhips is going to use these flares to upgrade his clone from Fibreglass, and 2 other YouTubers planning on using them with shorts of them mocked up.

Hm. Those do look really good actually. What's another $1k. Hard to argue with metal panel bonded to metal.

Steel Flares Installed

I think I might be the first one to actually start to fit up the ex-pressed steel panels (or at least to post it on the internet). They're unreal. Check out some pics below, the second one is from last night. I'll also be making videos about it on YT @720motorworks if you want to see more about it

I did a small amount of adjusting in the rear but overall the fitment is quite good. The rear is interesting, because the OEM sheet metal comes down and has a lap joint with the inner structure, then continues down to become the tab that the bumper guide bolts into- The use for the rear tab here for if you do it the 'factory' way- drill the spot welds, separate the panels and attach the new skin.

As for the front, I straightened the bottom bend and cut it at an angle to line it up with the 'frame rail'. The factory construction wasn't as obvious as the rear was and I didn't feel like going through diagrams. In both cases, I simply cut the car where I thought it should be cut and made but joints all around.

Here is the full cut that I ended up doing. I'm also planning on filling in the wheel well area with sheet metal, which is why I completely cut it out instead of doing the tabs you typically see on widebody cars.

One thing to note not shown, the inner part of the quarter panel towards the front has a horizontal plastic divider between the quarter panel and the inner skin. This plastic sheet/divider must be removed to reach the backside of the fender weld seam for cleanup/sealing/paint. Simply cut the foam on all sides and it comes right out
