ER Chargepipe/BOV assembly?
Anyone have this setup that can provide a DIY for this or link? Not sure if the stock chargepipe assembly is different on the 2010 models as with the earlier models..
Id like to be able to do this myself, but im not the best engine DIYer so I may leave this for my shop ![]() |

My new ER pipe came with instructions. It was fairly straight forward but took me much longer than they guesstimated. I installed new dvs at the same time. Probably took me around 2 hours. The main place I got confused is there was this weird device that came off my stock chargepipe and there was no way to mount it on the ER. I have a thread on this device.

2010 is a different charge pipe (BMW changed the chargepipe in 09), ER has the correct parts to make this fit.......see my pics above.

Very nice looking!
So is yours the updated pipe and hardware? I did see they have an add-on $50 for 09's and above or something.. Gimme the full scoop, I wanna know all about ur opinions of the setup, AND how easy it is to get at the TMAP sensor with that, it almost looks like you can reach it even with the airbox still on ![]() I only ask cuz im waiting to put my JB+ in until I switch out chargepipes with this setup assuming itll make things MUCH easier and sexier and I already tried installing the JB+ with the stock setup, just took too much time, realized I didnt wanna hafta go thru that again if I had to take it out for some reason so.. Ive been stuck on whether to go with that bov or the tial, I like the HKS better thou cuz its not the valve design like the tial and that the HKS is leak-free. ![]() Also, did you install, or have a shop do it. Ill prob have my shop do it, im not much of an engine DIYer. |

Yes, mine is the updated pipe and hardware. I went with the HKS BOV and 1 meth bung. The install is very straightforward. I recommend you look up the HPFP video I've posted, it shows how to remove the stock charge pipe. There is also a tip in the video on how to remove the TMAP plug using a usb plug. If you go with a different BOV, the stock air box may not fit. Once the factory charge pipe is removed, you simply transfer the TMAP sensor and the factory C-clip and O-ring to the ER pipe. Very simple. I personally would not pay a shop to do this, it's very basic and not difficult.

Thats a nice video man, yea id prob die in a pile of my own sweat and curse words halfway thru that process
![]() You make it look fairly easy but honestly I think ill still have my shop do this, least I have the guarantee of the work being done correct with no problems then, and i dont hafta kick my ass doing it cuz im sure id run into issues n shit like I did when I was tryin to install the JB+ before. The main problems I had were with the damn cabin filter/upper cowl installation and removal. I dunno why necessarily, i just had SO much trouble getting the shit off and even more getting it back on. The two covers over my strut braces are still not clipped on correctly somehow, not even sure why I think the cowl or something isnt back perfectly so those two covers didnt clip on secure. Thats basically when i said screw it, I had already spent 2 hours dicking around with taking all the crap out n putting it back in, was pouring sweat n my back was killing me cuz its not easy bending over the car workin in that engine, specially by flashlight. Honestly, that whole thing prob wouldnt have been that bad had I not decided to remove the cowl/cabin filter, etc. and just stuck with removing the airbox, but I didnt have my bendable torx driver with me so I couldnt get at the rear inlet tube clamp without removing the cowl n everything, I first took that lower cowl with the wires out, but still couldnt quite reach it so decided to take the upper assembly off n thats where the shit hit the fan. I was only at around 10 minutes before I decided on that... ![]() Sorry I drag on, doesnt really have much to do with this, just reason as to why I wont be fuckin with that stuff again myself, least not with the chargepipe. I can remove the airbox now with my other torx. I figure my shop wont take more than an hour to do this chargepipe install, looks like it took you about 30 min overall taking the stock one off n this new one on. We shall see, i havent even bought it yet, waiting to sell my wheels n tires setup so I can do both of these at the same time. Btw I did see the DIY for the JB+ and their explanation on removing the cable with the USB, sounded easy, but when I was messing with all that before, I just decided not to even try cuz I was worried that in that light and all pissed off and tired that I was, I might drop the cable down into the engine while trying to get the usb inside..that and that huge ass stock resonator was in the way, that was the kicker. I saw that thing n said fuck this..I mean its literally right on top of the TMAP. Not sure if they added the resonator on the later models or what but so many ppl just made this install sound so easy, I dunno, I guess im alot more cautious, not quite as experienced a DIYer with engine mods ![]() |
