Not sure why BMW didn't put a little more into the 1m so there would be no question that it would be a better car than the Audi RS3, TTRS and Cayman R. I love the 1m but if BMW would have put in 1m specific custom sport seats, bumped the HP up to 360+, added a better sound system option, used the alcantara on the seats and headliner and removed it from the odd placements and tweaked the cabin with some carbon fiber then there would be no question that the 1m would be the better car.

Wow. If so many different reviewers all choose the 1M, then it must be quite special.

What a non-committal wishy-washy review, IMO. He'd buy the 1M, but the Audi is the better car? Mmmmkay.

I would never buy an A3, it simply looks so mmmm, common... Not the case with the 1M.

What ARE the seats?

How do they compare to the 335i sport seats?

Thanks!

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream.

The seats are std sport seats from a 135i. Nothing really special like M-seats.

They kept the 1M like it is to keep the price down. Simple wins in my book, and so far in every auto test as well.

what he meant to say is that it's on top as a driver's car, which may not appeal to the average customer.

I read what you read as well.
The writer overall prefer the "visceral" appeal of the 1M, and that's legit.
But, in the final analysis both automobiles seems fantastic.
Personal choice here as there seems to be no clear winner, other than the R3 for it's excellent all weather, real world abilities.

Too bad for Audi that it's not available in the US.

However, non of the thing you mention would affect it's overall handling performance compared to the RS3, TTS, or Cayman R.
More power and a better stereo with some CF bits in the cabin wouldn't change how it drives.
A proper LSD would be a good start to help it handle daily drive weather related road conditions.

Edit: I may be wrong about the LSD in the 1M.

Is the M-diff not "a proper LSD"? I'm not being argumentative; this is a sincere question.

Thanks

Good you brought that up, cause I'm not sure either.
I think the 1M does have a proper LSD.
The article makes a comment about "blurred dialog between the DSC and M differential....", or something like that.
I took that to mean that perhaps the M differential was not so good or not so properly tuned.

Sorry for the confusion.
I'm sure someone will fill us in.

The two cars are so different.

Audi RS3 has AWD and you cannot turn off the ESP completely. GRIP a german auto mag on tv testet the RS3 already and he wasn't very pleased about the esp thing.

The BMW is a RWD and you can turn off the ESP completely. For some people they can't handle that, sure the Audi is the better option. But I would go for the BMW. I don't need to pull the handbrake for a drift on the BMW. ;-)

Car Magazine thinks you can turn the RS3's ESP off!

"Let's hope it's good, as the RS3's ESP can be switched off entirely."

We need track reviews. These are merely bullshit reviews, not adding any comparison points. I hope Chris Harris will do it soon!
