Is it just me or..?
Hey guys,
I got my car from a BMW dealership around 2 months ago. While snapping a picture of my 2008 RWD 128i, I noticed that my rear wheels/tires seem to be smaller. Is it just me seeing an optical illusion or the dealership put the wrong set of set wheels/tires on the wrong end...because that would be dumb. Thanks all! |

Uh... Isn't 215 or 245 is a width/track measurement? All four wheels should have the same diameter/height, or so it is my understanding. The rear wheels/tires aren't *taller* than the fronts, they're *wider* (in other words, if you have 18s, then you have 18" wheels in all four wells). So swapping the fronts and rears and then looking at them from the side shouldn't produce any visible disparity. (Unless I'm just completely wrong here?)
At any rate, I see no problem here. If you copy/paste one wheel on top of the other one in Photoshop they're clearly the same size.

Oh I see, so the wheels are the same size but the tires have different heights?

This statement would still be incorrect, then, or at least it looks at the wrong dimension.

Anyway, I went back to Photoshop and did the cut and paste again, and the tire widths appear to be the same, or the difference is too small to see. You'd have to get a ruler and actually measure it.

This thread reminds me of this picture. I throw this one at my students sometimes just for the sheer pleasure of boggling their minds when I tell them than A and B are the same color. They never believe me, of course, at which point I throw it into Photoshop and trim out everything but A and B, and voila -- minds explode. :-)

Which doesn't mean, by the way, that I'm not going to grab my trusty ruler and go check my tires anyway..... :-)

Okay, I guess that just means that you can't go by the picture -- you have to actually look at the numbers (as you were saying).

in his case the front wheel is pushed out due to it being a bigger size and the rear wheel is small due to it being sunk in. lol.
