BMW Performance Exhaust + N55 Mids is Enough to go Stage 2 ??
Sup everybody !
Here is my concern : As far as i understand the OEM Perf Exhaust is less restrictive than the Standard Exhaust and the N55 Mids are also less restrictive and more flowing than the N54's mids , so by adding these 2 Bolt ons will it be enough to go Stage 2 or do we really require to upgrade the DP's as well ?? why should we, since we're already removing a great deal of back pressure anyway with the 2 mentioned Bolt Ons ?? As for the intake, all the threads are saying that we might as well keep the stock box , it's less risky for heat soak , Am i right on this ? as for the FMIC, i live in Canada and needless to say that it's cold most of the year so am guessing that the OEM FMIC works just fine in these cold conditions. Thanks for your input

The DP is what heats up and creates most of the back pressure. On an N54 the mids are restrictive because of the secondary cars. Lastly the axleback on N54 and N55 is restrictive because of some small cross sections that create restrictions.

Downpipes are the most restrictive components of the exhaust system, therefore once you start upping the boost like in Stage 2, its going to create a ton of backpressure if you keep the oem downpipes on there. There is a reason why downpipes are a 'required' mod to run Cobb Stage 2.
If you plan on running Cobb Stage 2+, then a FMIC is absolutely required. You may think just because there is cold weather that you will be fine, but the honest truth is that the oem fmic is a piece of shit that will heatsoak after a few pulls. In my honest opinion, I would get a FMIC before downpipes and run their Stage 1+ map as it is more aggressive than Stage 2 (but not Stage 2+). |

As for intake, I'm of the belief that the stock box is good for up to 15psi. After that, a DCI may be better due to higher volume of air getting in. Someone can chime in if this is wrong info... but it's what I'm lead to believe after reading thread upon thread of a forever debatable topic.

My German tuner told me that IF you want to make more than 400 HP... you will need to get rid of the main cats/dp's. I am making just under that level, but I have decided to keep my main cats.
![]() As for an intake... I would look into a Mr. 5 mod for your airbox.
