Those of you with quad exhausts

Quick question guys those of you with custom quad exhausts, what is the part in the picture I attached? Do you guys remove it when doing a custom quad exhaust? I just bought my quad diffuser and looking at how to route the piping since my buddy is a welder that makes performance parts

Take some better pictures underneath. I want to say it's possibly your charcoal filter. You may want to look into a 1M battery tray and charcoal filter relocation mod if you want to do the quad exhaust the right way.

Ralph1M > That exhaust in the pic you referenced, is either designed or customized to fit the 135. It circles around the back of the battery tray. Yeineken > is correct. That is the charcoal filter. It is not/should not be removed.

On the 1M, it's relocated in order to properly fit the quad. I took some good before and after pics to give you an idea:

Is that a custom 1m replica bumper? Does it fit the non wide body on the 135i good? Also what exactly does that charcoal filter do?

False. Charcoal canister acts as a filter for fuel vapors. Keeping unwanted vapors/smells out of the environment, and the system reroutes fuel vapor to the intake manifold for emissions purposes.

Charcoal canister is connected to ALL fuel sources (HPFP, LPFP, Gas Filler Pipe), thru a series of vent-lines.

Ralph1M > In that that pic BTW, I am about 99.9% sure the canister is there.

Here's a better pic:

Here are similar setups:

Like I mentioned, these are designed to go around the back of the battery tray & canister. The reason you don't see it is because there's a protective cover underneath. I'm not a big fan of removing stuff, so I would advise against it -- just me though.

Try ~550 USD depending on the daily exchange.

Looks like it's 639.45 with taxes but not including shipping, and I don't know if that includes diffuser or not

Ralph1M > I have to disagree with you. If you look at the first pic you posted (with the canister), and the pic of the exhaust in question...you can clearly see that it goes underneath everything i.e. canister, right rear-wheel module bucket. Lets say, theoretically, that the canister is removed, and it goes thru that space -- the tips would be too high.

After some digging around, that exhaust DOES NOT, appear to be a custom solution. It looks to be the "Arqray - Race Exhaust - e82 135i QuadTip" system. The post I found dates back to 2010 and couldn't find any current posts/offerings of the product. Most likely, its discontinued. These guys seem to carry it > fiercespeed.com.

That said, because it's not/wasn't a custom solution, I strongly doubt that they (or any company for that matter) would require you to remove ANY mechanical component from the vehicle. From a liability standpoint, it doesn't make sense. Every single dual/quad exhaust setup that I've seen for the 135i does not require removal of mechanical components which are not directly related. The only mod that's common practice, is to cut/modify or remove the protective plastic piece that covers the entire bottom rear-right side including the canister.

Some exhaust/diffuser combos bring the tips in more towards the middle. Others more towards the outside. Which diffuser did you get?

I went directly to their site but don't see it in their offering any longer.
