Who has experienced this error after HID angels?
Shortly after my HID angel install, I got a little moisture in one of my lights. Turns out that the cover didn't seal properly. I adjusted and the moisture went away, however, I get this donkey-crap every time I start my car:
From my understanding (and from what I've been told), it seems to be the motor or controller that sits underneath the light itself (or some type of sensor). Whatever the case is, its annoying and I want it gone. Anyone experience the same thing? Anyone know what part needs to be changed? Last edited by TUN3D; 06-01-2013 at 04:42 PM.. |

Check if you ballasts aren't hitting the motor for the lights. I used to get that too, but it went away for reason lol. Lights still work fine.

The ballasts are not hitting anything. I 3M'd them to parts of the chassis. You mentioned "light motor". I think this might be the part I need. At least that was what I was told. Do you happen to know the exact name of the motor?

I think it's called the vertical aim control. Part # 63117207574
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...05&hg=63&fg=05 I am not 100% sure, but it might be it.

Thanks rod! PhrenetiK, can you direct me to where I can find those headlights. Also, I noticed you have those black LCI tails. If you can send me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks guys!

It's amazing how many people have issues after messing with their headlights. 1) Jam stuff in there and get in the way of the motor arm and break it, or 2) Don't get the cover back on correctly and get water inside.

I have the same error. I've lived with it for more than a year now because 1) BMW won't cover repairs if they know you modified your headlight in ANY way, and it doesn't matter if the modification caused the error or not and 2) the low/high beams still work, just not the left/right/up/down adaptive motions. A friend of mine who is a BMW tech at a dealership said that it's actually very common for the 1 series headlight motors to fail. They've seen it pretty often before, and it's especially common with modified lights. If your lights are otherwise working (like mine), you probably let moisture in, which didn't affect the bulbs but was enough to affect the motor for the adaptive light.

^ same issue, not sure if it is the Lux or not. Covers have been installed properly, and ballasts are mounted and out of the way...figures I am just out of warranty.

seeing this is a common problem, even for those that have not changed there bulbs out. Does anyone know how the moisture is getting into these lamp housings? The black rear cover?? or are the leaks coming from the front side? I can replace the internals but need to find a way to prevent the water from entering so the same problem doesn't occur again.

+1. That is why I won't touch my headlight/AE bulbs! OP, you can order the EU headlights from Schmiedmann. Just use RealOEM to look up parts for a EU spec car with the same build date as yours. Then plug in the part number into Schmiedmann's website. http://www.schmiedmann.de/

Can't speak for others but I assure you mine were clamped. Which leads me to believe the leak came from another area.

Just had this issue surface today. Have had the lights for more than a few months now, through ridiculous humidity and torrential downpours. Clamps properly tightened and fastened when I examined them. Haven't opened them up yet, but if its not an issue of the ballast getting in the way, then I don't think I can be bothered paying for a repair. |

I'm bumping this up again. Finally got a spare headlight with all the modules and controllers. Anyone have experience changing these? Are there any DIY's?

I guess I'll answer my own question then. The control, arm is easy as pie to replace. That did nothing. Next up is the "Control Unit". This requires me to pull out the light. I'll keep you guys posted (might be a few days).
