You get extra 20hp and additional torque dependind on your transmission. It also comes with some kind of additional cooling (extra radiator?). I got an email as well. My dealer is somewhat clueless though. As of right now, its a port install option. It will become dealer install option at the later time. Cost: $2300 with labor. JB+ is by far a better value but BMW one comes with full factory warranty; and it doesnt even affect your gas mileage (according to BMW). I guess it comes down to whether you want more power (JB+) or peace of mind (BMW kit with warranty). I glanced at the dealer printout, it costs them about 1600 in parts.

Opinion (from reading about JB, BMW Performance Kit, and owning Dinan):
* JB products are lower cost, tons of flexibility for boost options (JB3 programs), and large power gains, but involve piggybacking/wiring, may throw codes, and may void BMW warranty coverage. (The tweakers choice.) * BMW Performance Kit is higher cost, not flexible, seamless (software only + maybe radiator), conservative/low power gain, but doesn't void BMW warranty coverage. (The safe choice.) * Dinan Stage 2 is higher cost, not flexible, seamless (software only), moderate/large power gains, and may void BMW warranty coverage, but includes backup warranty where BMW declines coverage. (The "BMW" of choices.) Sorry, I'm unfairly leaving out a host of other tunes/tuners... |

That's quite a bit of money for not knowing exactly what's being done. The description is just vague enough to tell you +17hp/20tq, and that it runs hotter necessitating extra fans/radiator.

Well I got some scoop on this from my local dealer today. First off - it looks like the part numbers involved aren't even available in North America right now, the email came to us ahead of availability and importantly: ability. Second - it also looks like it's an option that pops only if you have the "M Sport Package" on your vehicle - something to do with the way air is inducted thru the front bumper - or so my dealer tells me. That categorically denies the package to MY 2008 owners like myself because no "M Sport Package" was available on '08s. Anyway - the possibility exists that the front bumper could need to be replaced. All that said and done - the dealer was able to put together a parts cost: $2,300 US - unsurprising considering that to get satellite radio costs almost a grand in parts and labor. But that $2,300 is for parts alone - not even counting if the front bumper has to be replaced to comply with whatever the "M Sport Package" does. I hate to see the labor as well - ugly is what I'm thinking.

^^Unfortunately your probably right.
Too bad BMW had to be "BMW" on this and charge an outrageous price. I doubt this will woo many people away from the aftermarket It is odd though that they send out this e-mail before they even give the Dealers the news. Guess it's good to know BMW is just as screwed up as my company |

it the gains were substantial, like 50-80rwhp then i would get it for $2k for the peace of mind of not having to worry bout warranty issues
but for only 20hp, screw that! |
