An important figure for M-cars is always its weight. No surprise there seeing as how weight is such a crucial component of how well (or poorly) a car performs.

The lucky folks at Axis of Oversteer have managed to get their hands on the first 1M coupe on American soil. Their independent weighing of the 1M coupe with a full tank of gas resulted in reading of 3,351 pounds, really a rather impressive number given the specs of this car and the weight of the most new model cars.

This particular 1M coupe is the one spotted earlier today, heading from New Jersey to Daytona, Florida to serve as the pace car for the 24 Hours of Daytona race this weekend. Source: Axis of Oversteer via Autoblog

"E82 1M at 1,495 kg = 3,296 lbs"
Gasoline weighs approximately 6lbs/gal (can be as heavy as 6.5).
13gal*6lbs/gal = 78lbs
3296+78 = 3374
So yeah with a full tank of gas I would say the numbers add up.
In fact the dry weight may even be a little less than the previous estimate.

There's a reason serious drag racers run with just enough fuel to get down the track =P

No. I reckon my E46 M3 with sunroof and full tank of gas and no driver was 3450 lb.

There was a thread on this yesterday

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=479693

the car that was weighed is the same one that is being featured on BMWs FB page. The driver is currently getting around 23 mpg- with the engine not broken in yet. Passing acceleration on the highway is fantastic. The car requires more driver input than say and E90 M3 making it more "rewarding". MDM has been tweaked and allows for a greater slip angle than the M3 and unlike the TTRS ( which is even lower volume and around $15k more) it can be drifted and is quite happy doing so. This car is shod with BMWs private compound PS2s and is not recommended to be driven in the winter but since the car is making the trip to Florida without snow forecasts. Being a pre-pro the car has halogen headlights and some other "issues" but the drive train and software is final. The M button acts like the button in the E46.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but -- unlike the M3 -- I thought the 1M didn't have M Dynamic Mode (MDM)....

RE: E46 M3 and 1M weight

They've done alright with the 1M considering the entire body of the E46 M3 is made out of aluminium and the 1M is mostly steel (correct me if I am wrong)

Back to BMW's M roots my ass. That's only 300 pounds lighter then a e92 M3. Come one BMW, get with the program...the heavier your cars are the more tech you have to cram into the car to make it save gas. Make it lighter, and it will naturally save gas. It's really not that hard to understand.

Audi and Mercedes are both losing weight.

OK, lets make it light. Use cork, balsa wood and an engine from a Toyota like Lotus does.

Not bad. But I wonder if this weight is with all the options like nav etc. Otherwise without many electric things it could probably be lighter.

The 1M has MDM, it's just not configurable like it is in the E9x M3.

Love everything you described except the drifting part. Just makes me slower when I drift. Can't put the power down.

The hood of the e46 m3 is aluminum. All other body panels are steel to my knowledge.
