Unsuccessful breakin attempt.. :(

So i walked out to my car this morning, and someone had stuck a screwdriver into the drivers side door lock.

As far as i can tell they didn't get in, I don't recal hearing an alarm go off, my ipod's still in there..

Annoying, arrgh. Am in the process of moving to a new place with a garage, for the next few weeks i need to park it on the street though.

Damn

But seriously how stupid can people be.....

Trying to jimmy a BMW door with a flathead screwdriver?

You're doing it wrong.

My first WRX was broken into - accidently left the boot unlocked Then, the little kiddies tried to set fire to the car by lighting 3 fires - front passenger seat, rear seat in the middle and in the boot...But the goose (obviously failed year 10 Science, or most probably hadn't even made it to Year 10 yet) closed all the doors so the fire didn'te breath and just melted the plastic boot lining. On top of that, i had woolen seat covers in the front so the fire went nowhere.

The car was still written off, but only because the fumes from the plastic were toxic!

Sorry to hear that janus..Hope the damage isnt too extensive.

20 odd years ago I had someone try to break into my 1988/323i and they actually cut out the entire door handle with some type of chisel/cutters..

Just left a gapping hole where the door handle was..

years ago my skyline was suffered by an unsuccessful breakin too, driverside door around handle was badly damaged and at the end I have to replace the whole driverside door. I'd rather they just break the window...

Sorry to hear that.

2 years ago, someone smashed my right side rear window of my 325i sedan. It was parked at Macquarie Street in Sydney around 7pm. I was so stupid to left my backpack behind driver seat and think window so dark that no one can see it's there. Come back in an hour and my backpack with my work documents gone.. as well as my $3xx window.

Just as a question Janus - what suburb are you in? There have been heaps of cases of this happening on the northern beaches lately, but to WRX's, Lancers and other ricers.

Not teaching anyone how to do it, but the most effective way is to break the window. My brother's car was inside two layers of security door and was still managed to have their 3er's window smashed.

am in Balmain, ipod's in the little pouch under the arm rest.. can't be arsed taking it out every time i get in and out of the car (it's not visible from outside).

I found the external part of the door lock on the ground next to the car the other day, didn't even realise what it was, threw it on the kerb thinking it was some random peice of metal.. now i know

Anyway, since it's a work vehicle, looks like they'll pay the insurance excess, am just not sure since it's registered with work, but with me as the driver, will it effect my premiums?

All depends on the insurance structure that your work has in place..

If each vehicle has a nominated driver or an overall insurance.

Very interesting.

My personal comprehensive with GIO specifically stated that i needed a "Name and Address of Person Responsible for any damage" to the vehicle.

Since it was broken into and torched, and the police didn't get any prints, we couldn't get the address.

After a heated discussion with GIO, they waived the excess and i kept my NCD Rating 1.

did you get an alarm fitted by bmw?

if nothing was visible then the thief may have wanted the car. thief must have fallen for the 1er, thief could be in love with your car! thief may be eyeing it off every night, your car could be having an affair.

i would check if the insurance company thinks your 1er is garaged?

hey bc,

I think BMW don't included an alarm because the vehicle is already very secure with its laser key technology...the only way to steal the car is to have the key...
If they were desperate to break into the car they'd smash the window if they wanted something inside...

Some people are so stupid they'll do anything.

They are not stupid, it's just that crack cocaine has destroyed 1/2 of their brains. The half that is remaining is only concerned with figuring out how to get $20 for the next fix. It's too bad really.
