Also, the pic's in this thread are cool. The contrasting smeared sky remind me of "Ta Da"

I just think it would look cleaner without the stripe. But it doesn't bother me enough to paint it.

I have a Canon 5D. People don't realize how important post processing is to have really great images.
HDR also gets a bad wrap because people don't know how to use it properly. That over-saturated look in a lot of HDR images is just a look. It doesn't define HDR. HDR is a process of merging multiple exposures to create images that are normally impossible for a camera to capture. Here's how it works and my process for these photos: Black cars on a bright day is a nightmare. Getting nice blue skies + details in a black car are almost impossible in one shot. Here's what happens when I expose for the car: Car looks good, but the sky is pretty light. Here's when I expose for the sky (not the greatest job though): The details in the sky is better, but now the car is way under exposed. Here's a 3rd exposure This is is overly exposed to capture some of the finer details in the car. So I take these 3 images (taken on a tripod so they align perfectly) and create an HDR in Photomatix: The goal in Photomatix is NOT to create a final image. You want to create an image with great exposure all around. As you can see I bumped up the saturation a bit, but it's not extremely over-saturated like a lot of HDRs. Once merged and tonal mapped, Photomatix spits out a 16-bit tiff file for me to edit in Photoshop (shown above). And the final step is all the post work. I have a lot of sensor dust showing up (need to get my camera serviced) so I remove those. I also clone out things in the image that I feel detract from the image. Then I use various actions from Totally Rad Actions (http://totallyradactions.com/) to create the look I'm going for. These actions are extremely powerful if you know photoshop well. And as seen in the original post, I end up with this: So with that said, it doesn't take an expensive camera to achieve results like this. It's really about knowing how to use all the tools.

That last post wasn't completely directed towards you. It's just that whenever anyone posts decent photos, a lot of people ask, "what camera?" as if the camera does all the work. Just wanted to share my process as most photographers like keeping everything to themselves.

Damn you're car is always so nice and clean. Want to detail my car and take some photos?
We should get together sometime for a shoot though, maybe once I have all my iCarbon parts on and my car detailed.

A quick wash and wax is enough for photos (that's all I do). I'd love to shoot your car sometime. Just let me know when.
