^ wow what a PITA!!! So could it still be the dust shield? Maybe the material they use cannot withstand the temperature so over time it is prone to warping???

So I told my tech about the problems addressed here and he doesn't think they offer solutions to the problem so... he ordered new rotors for the front and will have them in and on in about three days. I'll post again when that happens

Got my car back today and no clicking present... They actually said one of my rotors had rivets in it and that was making the noise so they replaced it. Anyways if any of you are having this problem this may be a possible solution...

I just got my car back from service today and they ended up replacing both front rotors as well. The clicking is gone for now, hopefully it will stay that way.

Clicking is back!!!.......BUT it's coming from the rotor which they did not replace. So I'm assuming it is the rotors. I guess this will continue to be an issue until the stock rotors are replaced with an aftermarket alt.... or are the brake pads the problem? Not sure

I've been experiencing the same noise as described in this thread, except now it's heard even when going straight and as slow as 1mph.
I took it in when it was confined to just tight left turns, and the dealership replaced the wheel bearing and checked/re-torqued everything. The sound returned after a few days, and this time they just dismounted the wheel/tire. The sound disappeared. A few weeks later: it's back, happens without a turn, and is louder. |

I have it too, I hear it on hard turns left or right... light tinking metallic noise. It seems to be common across all model years.

Mine did this and it turned out to be the steering rack. they replaced it after pushing them about 5 times. The dealer tried to tell me this was normal.
I did have this again recently and they said it was mis-torqued wheels. I haven't had the problem since.

Hey all. I've had this issue several times now. Easiest way to clear things out is reverse real fast then jam on the brakes. It should dislodge any pebbles and you might temporarily fix your problem.
Unfortunately, I don't know of any true fix to the issue. I've had it to the dealer twice now for it. They lift the car, inspect, put it back down and don't experience the issue. Therefore it's never been diagnosed. I feel all of your pain. Hope someone comes up with a true fix. |

I too have this sound, and for what it's worth so did a Tire Rack student's dad's E90 M3 as well, same exact sound after 45 degrees of steering input. So maybe not E82/87 specific. My 1er goes in for it's 15k service in a month, I'll have it looked @ then. Hehehehe, my 15k service that is going to happen @ 12,500 miles :P

I've had this problem since the first month I've had the car and it's quite annoying. I lowered the car and the dealer won't even touch it because I have a modified suspension.
It's been diagnosed to be so many different issues. For the most part, it seems that it's the brake shield torque settings, but my laziness supersedes the annoyances of the clicking. |

first off: am not a frequent forum user, not a mech expert,so forgive me using wrong technical descriptions. Having said that: my 2010 production 135i DCT conv. started this annoying clicking/mechanical noise in (hard)right turns a while ago. Then some more even a lower speeds. Took it to the dealership. Made a test drive together with the mech and he a) said "yes I hear that", b) "you also have a noise when accelerating. Shouldn't be there either". So they took the car for 3 days. BMW verdict: The mounting (brackets? whatever) of the exhaust system are supposed to be somewhat flexible to avoid noises etc. Appeared that the ones coming ex-works aren't really performing the way they should (too stiff). So they replaced the exhaust mounts (if that's the word I am looking for) with a "solution that should do it although currently it is a temporary one" (whatever that means). Long story short: no more noises whatsoever except the ones I ordered the car for - 3L straight six. |
